Convert School.Machine & School.Machine.Kiosk for USB Key

Do all the following on a Windows box:

·         Download the ISO and make a note of its location.

·         Download HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool (or click here if the HP site is down).

·         Download unetbootin-windows-241.exe (or click here if the unebootin/sourceforge site is down).

Using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool:

·         Format your USB key as follows:

o        File System: FAT 32

o        Volume Label: Whatever

o        Leave everything else at default values

Use unetbootin-windows-241.exe:

·         In ‘Distribution’, select PCLinuxOS & 2007_Live (the base image of School.Machine & School.Machine.Kiosk re-masters).

·         In ‘Diskimage’, select ISO, and drill down to the location of the downloaded ISO image mentioned above.

·         Leave other values blank, except for the last field ‘Type’. Ensure you select the drive letter that represents your USB key.

·         Select ok, and let it run. Depending on size of the ISO image, it should take about 5 minutes.

Put the USB key in a PC that is configured to boot from a USB device, and voila!

Note: The USB version is immune to write operations. Perfect for a kiosk type setup!
